The Titanic drops anchor in Santander

Titanic the reconstruction

The Plaza Porticada of Santander was the site chosen for setting up a pavilion covering nearly 1,000 square metres that will house the largest model of the Titanic ever built.

Another attraction of the Titanic, The Reconstruction exhibition, sponsored by Bathco, is the reproduction of the first- and second-class bathrooms of the ship of dreams, which include washbasins, mahogany furniture, fixtures, a bathrobe and towels. These pieces, developed two years ago, are part of the Titanic Collection by Bathco.

The bathrooms of the Titanic, a research project

In July 2015, the president of the Titanic Foundation, Jesús Ferreiro, decided to reproduce, among other spaces on the ship, a first- and second-class cabin, highlighting the bathrooms, to include them in the Titanic, The Reconstruction exhibition. To do so he called on the Cantabrian company after meeting its CEO, José López, at an art exhibition.

After months of intense research, development and preparation, the Bathco team, working with the prestigious designer Pascual Salvador, were able to develop a replica of the bathrooms on the famous ocean liner. Old photographs and plans from 1912 provided by the Foundation served as the basis for creating new designs adapted to the needs of today.

The work Bathco undertook to create the bathrooms of the Titanic didn’t end with the exhibition. The Cantabrian company decided to market the collection under the name Titanic Collection by Bathco.

“We have recovered the best of that era in the Titanic Collection by Bathco, a series of washbasins and various accessories — mahogany furniture, fixtures, bathrobes and a set of towels — which faithfully reproduce the first- and second-class bathrooms of the ocean liner” relates José López, who was the driving force behind this initiative.

Splendour, luxury and sophistication were the concepts that governed the design of each and every element, in connection with the latest Art Deco trends of the era.

Bathco can take pride in having been the first and only company in the world to enable anyone who so desires to have a replica of the bathrooms on the Titanic in their home.

Titanic, The Reconstruction reaches Santander

After welcoming numerous visitors in cities like Granada, León, Bilbao, Barcelona and Vigo, Titanic, The Reconstruction reaches Santander under the auspices of Bathco, its main sponsor. After its run in the Cantabrian capital, it will continue on its European and American journey.

The exhibition shows originals and reproductions of tools that were used in the construction of this emblematic ship that disappeared in the waters of the Atlantic, between Southampton and New York, on its maiden and only voyage.  Featured in the reproductions are the first- and second-class bathrooms developed by Bathco and which the Titanic Foundation staged in a way that manages to transport the visitor to the cabins of the famous ocean liner.

Those that have seen this exhibition in other cities say that it is a sensory experience that transports visitors back to the year 1912 and lets them step onboard the ship of dreams. This exhibition makes it possible to enjoy the ship’s incredible facilities and even to listen to the heart-wrenching stories of what happened on board, narrated by their actual protagonists.

Jesús Ferreiro, president of the Titanic Foundation, says that “this exhibition is unquestionably the most effective tool for helping to keep alive, in the memories of millions of people, the true story of our beloved and iconic Titanic”.

The Titanic, The Reconstruction exhibition will be open in the city of Santander from 10 October to 12 November.
