This was announced today by the Councilor for Tourism, Gema Igual, who was accompanied at the press conference by the President of the Titanic Foundation, Jesús Ferreiro, and the General Manager of Bathco, José López Cortés.
The exhibition, the dates of which will be announced soon, will be located in the parking lot of the new Castilla-Hermida promenade and will allow visitors to enjoy the largest Titanic model ever built and experience the sensation of the shipwreck thanks to augmented reality effects.
Organized by the Titanic Foundation, it will arrive in Santander with the collaboration of the City Council, the Port Authority, and Bathco, a Santander company that has been commissioned to create a life-size replica of the ship's first and second-class washrooms.
The exhibition, which will occupy a space of 1,200 square meters, will consist of a model of the ship, measuring 12 meters long and 4 meters wide, open on one side so that visitors can observe the different rooms: the boiler room, lounges, the grand staircase, the cabins, etc.
As Ferreiro explained, in addition to the model, visitors can see a reproduction of the Marconi cabin where they can speak by radio with ships currently sailing in the bay, enjoy original Titanic artifacts, or learn the story of the survivors, especially the youngest, Millvina Dean, whom the exhibition pays tribute to.
The exhibition, currently being finalized at Granada's Science Park, is designed to make visitors feel like they are just another passenger. It already has a circuit planned through various European cities until 2021, and Santander will be the first to experience the special effects produced by augmented reality, which will allow, for example, the simulation of water penetrating and destroying the interior of the ship.
The councilwoman has highlighted the effort of the City Council and the company Bathco in bringing the exhibition to the city.
The Santander-based company Bathco recreates the sinks from the Titanic
The exhibition ‘Titanic: The Reconstruction’ will feature a full-scale reproduction of one of the ship's most important rooms, the first and second-class bathrooms. The Cantabrian company Bathco has been selected for this, and they will manufacture the collection at their factory in Santander.
He also congratulated the company's executives on this new challenge and assured them that it is one of the most important companies in the world in its specialty.
José López Cortés, the company manager, has announced that a series of events has been scheduled for October 30th in the new Gamazo area to mark the presentation of the Titanic sink reproductions.
The events will begin at 12:30 PM with a lecture by Princess Elettra Marconi, daughter of Guglielmo Marconi, one of the most prominent pioneers of long-distance radio transmission, world-famous as a result of the role radio played in saving hundreds of lives during the Titanic disaster.
At 1:30 PM, there will be a symbolic ceremony in the bay waters, which, depending on the weather, could be moved to the aquarium of the Maritime Museum. During this event, new reproductions of sinks from the seabed will be unveiled. At 2:30 PM, a meal will be held at the Cantabrian Maritime Museum, featuring the same menu that was served on board the Titanic on April 14, 1912. At 4:00 PM, the Ataulfo Argenta Orchestra and the Halane choir will perform the music of the Titanic, accompanied by a bagpipe group.
