The Raqueros de Puertochico Association names López Cortés second Raquero de Honor.
Bathco manager and sports entrepreneur José López Cortés was honored this Friday as an honorary member by the Association in recognition of his active social and sports work in Cantabria.

The association “Los Raqueros de Puertochico” awarded the distinction of honorary member last Friday to Mr. José López Cortés, a recognized successful businessman, sports manager, and rugby enthusiast, who attended the event following the recent launch of “Titanic Collection” with the Bathco brand, through which he exports to over 70 countries.
The association's vice president, Bernardo Suárez Cruz, took advantage of the meeting to recognize the work carried out both in its industrial capacity, investing in innovation and design in its products, and in its role as a sponsor of sports and social initiatives for the Cantabrian region.
The meeting concluded with the presentation of the distinction and the appointment of López Cortés as an Honorary Raquero of the Association after lunch held at the Umma Restaurant, located near the Santander neighborhood of Puertochico.
The Association
The Los Raqueros de Puertochico Association It was founded last July and has around 50 members and supporters. Its goal is to «highlight the value» of these characteristic figures of Santander, described by José María de Pereda in ‘El raquero’, which is included as one of the stories in ‘Escenas montañesas’.
During the 19th and 20th centuries, these children frequented the docks and would dive into the sea to reach coins thrown to them by ship crews.
Now, this association also wants to reclaim the proper use of this word, away from derogatory connotations, in response to a request from the residents of Puertochico.
The mayor of Santander was the first of the honorary members appointed by this association.
