Let your bathroom shine with its own light
TipsHow important it is to have good light in the bathroom! For good makeup or shaving without having to guide yourself by touch, having the right light points is essential, but not only that, decoration and colors also play a fundamental role in our perception. Would you like to know a little more?
Let's go step by step. First, let's assess the space. Is your bathroom large or small? Does it have a window and therefore natural light? Is it an en-suite bathroom hidden within the bedroom, or is it visible from the hallway of the house?
As a first rule, and although it may seem obvious, if you are fortunate enough to have natural light, make the most of it and ensure that no element obstructs it.
Choose the right light points
Now let's think about lamps. As general recommendations, we offer you 5 essential tips for a good result:
Specific lamps. Look for special lighting fixtures for the bathroom space, especially for the shower area, where they must be waterproof.
General and task lighting. To achieve homogeneous illumination of the entire space, use two types of lights: general lighting and accent lighting to highlight specific areas such as the sink, mirrors, and bathtub.
Balance. Regarding the number of general light points, it will depend on the size of the room. As a guideline, one light fixture per square meter is recommended.
Colors. Opt for neutral or cool lighting to achieve a shade as close as possible to natural light.
Consumption. Opt for LEDs; they provide light without generating heat and help control energy consumption. Also, with the goal of optimizing spending, try to install independent switches so you don't activate more lights than necessary.
The role of decoration
As we said at the beginning, the layout and choice of furniture also influence lighting. As a starting point, it should be taken into account that when a sense of spaciousness is achieved in spaces, our perception of luminosity is enhanced at the same time.
Here are some ideas to help you achieve this effect:
- Less is more. Depending on the size of the room, avoid cluttering the space with decorative elements that take up space but don't add value.
- Depth. Better glass partitions than curtains, and even better transparent doors than those with vinyl. The glass increases the sense of depth and allows light to expand throughout the entire surface.
- Capture the light. In the absence of windows, attract light with a good mirror. In bathrooms without natural light, a generous mirror helps to expand the room's light.
- Play white. Light colors are on-trend and help to enlarge spaces and reflect light in the bathroom, illuminating the overall look better. If you want to avoid a very linear design, you can always combine textures and shapes.
- Shine. Metallic finishes and details, in glass, with acrylic, and in gloss, act similarly to mirrors. Introduce them in combination to create a harmonious set.
- On the air. Countertop sinks, wall-mounted furniture, and open shelves free up space, enhancing the room's light once again.
The cherry on top! If you're in the midst of a renovation and have an en-suite bathroom, we suggest breaking up the space and opening up a glazed opening, either at the top, vertically, or even replacing a wall with glass to allow natural light from the room to extend into this space as well.

Go ahead! You now have all the ideas you need to make your bathroom shine.
