Comfort and serenity

Projects, Residential

To name Fontclara is to speak of an idyllic Ampurdà village, where any soul in love with the area would wish to own a country farmhouse. There are four traditional houses, four perfectly maintained and preserved stone houses, built on a flat expanse set apart from the hustle and bustle of the surroundings.

There it is Mas Ametller, where a lifelong family lives and due to the enormous size of the farmhouse, they decided to renovate it with the help of Architect Ferran Prats and the Interior designer Sarah Alenyá.

The Casa Campo Magazine talk about this project that consisted of“divide the property into several independent houses available for rent, given that the building is centered around a rectangular courtyard, surrounded by a porch, and graced by a pleasant fountain. The owners decided to divide this volume into two parts: one for themselves with a private garden outside the courtyard, and the other to be made available to clients after its restoration.”.

The architect took special care with “the original facade when designing the work and when adding the porch that connects to the first floor. Inside, comfort takes precedence, adapted to an aesthetic that recalls the lines of contemporary architecture, but always resorting to the genuine techniques and materials used in the area in the past.”.

A renovated farmhouse in Empordà that stands on a plain far from the madding crowd.

Examples of this include walls made with lime mortar stucco and hand-painted with a brush. The wood used in the kitchen is native birch, although it is now practically extinct and strongly resembles poplar. Therefore, untreated natural wood and lime mortar stand out for their textures, mainly in the bathrooms and kitchen.

The ceilings were restored with vaults made of natural bricks, as can be seen in the bathrooms, which were treated with natural colors applied to lime mortar. The treatment of light through the play of volumes and the fusion of spaces was the other great achievement. Interior designer Sarah Alenyá rounded off the decoration by adding rustic elements in just the right amount, so that it always reminds us that we are enjoying a home of yesteryear but with today's comforts.

The result was an unpretentious, but high-quality home.

To maintain the style of this environment, the interior designer placed in one of the bathrooms a countertop sink painted by Bathco Atelier artists that imitates corten steel. In another of the bathrooms, the Rustic aluminum sink Altea.
