The importance of the sink in the space

Are you thinking about renovating your bathroom? Do you fancy a change in the decoration of this space in your home? You should know that one of the most prominent pieces in this area is the sink. That's why you have to choose the right model to include, as the final result depends heavily on it.

Types of washbasins

Before I show you designs and give you some tips to avoid failure, it's good for you to know the different typologies. It will help you get a more complete idea when you decide on one or the other:

Types of sinks for furniture:

  • Countertop sinks: They are usually the most decorative and are placed directly on top of the vanity.
  • Under-counter: They go under the counter so both pieces are completely flush.
  • Built-in: They are placed fitted into the countertop, protruding slightly above it.

Sinks without furniture:

  • Wall-hung: These are sinks that are attached directly to the wall (they have no support).
  • From the pedestal: they have a supporting foot.

What to consider

When looking for a sink, the aesthetic and maintenance required are the main criteria when choosing, although other points to consider are the space we have and the function we want to give it. How to get it right? Take note:

  • Aesthetics: Before purchasing the sink, we need to consider the style we want (or already have) for our bathroom. Modern, classic, simple, maximalist, romantic… Based on that foundation, we will choose one model or another.
  • Maintenance: The material it is made of will determine the maintenance required. Our recommendation? Choose more resistant models for high-traffic bathrooms and opt for others that require more maintenance in less frequented spaces, such as a guest bathroom.
  • Space and storage: If you have limited space, sink-only vanities are the best solution. For larger bathrooms and those where you need storage areas, you'll need models that come with furniture.
