Cabárceno Park, wildlife in every corner

Atelier

The Cabárceno Nature Park It is not a conventional zoo or a nature park. It is a space naturalized by the hand of man, based on the primitive beauty of its karst landscape, on the 750 hectares of a former open-pit mine.

The bathrooms at Restaurante Los Osos feature one of the Bathco Atelier team's most special projects. The Cabárceno Nature Park is a world-class benchmark, and the fauna it houses has proven to be one of the best sources of inspiration for artists. The Atelier's work enhances the fascinating experience of visiting the Cabárceno facilities by bringing its most representative animals into the bathrooms through illustrations on the ceramic tiles.

The artistic intervention begins with footprints painted on some of the tiles that cover the floor, leading us to all the countertop sinks and the wall tiles. “Wherever we look, we will find lions, bison, antelopes, giraffes, or gorillas represented among many other animals that observe us, making us feel in a unique and, above all, lively space,” state the artists who developed the work.

The artists at the Atelier took the various species living in the park as a reference point to begin working, employing the latest technologies applied to ceramics, as well as traditional painting using vitrifiable pigments. Hand-illuminated pencil sketches, computer design programs, Japanese brushes, mixtures of oils, powder pigments, and the magic of high-temperature kilns have all been useful in representing the animals in different attitudes, with a loose drawing style and watercolor-like washes that playfully inhabit the space.
