Bathco Atelier mural, stains of color that become women's forms

Cecilio Espejo's works are notable for their characteristic and expressive use of color. In his intervention at the Bathco workshop, he applied “a sequence of splotches, splatters, or even sprayed marks that, through a principle marked by chance, mutate, becoming an outline, a figure, and finally a face.”.

Between Bathco's showroom and workshop, there was a space that needed to be dressed up to give visitors an idea of what they would find upon crossing the sliding doors. Bathco Atelier is a hive of creativity, and therefore, an anteroom was needed to announce what they were about to visit. For this, Cecilio captured figures and forms subjected to continuous changes and new creations that permanently test his qualities as a draftsman, painter, and sculptor.

The woman, in both her most general and most particular sense, has inspired the artist to create this mural. Her gaze, her gestures, her features… which, although different, are similar across the five continents. Differently the same, one could say.

The color of Africa versus the sobriety of the West, the exoticism of Asia, the shapes of relief, the curves of the body… everything is susceptible to being captured.

The passageway between the showroom and the atelier was a large space intended for storage and it was decided to divide it to create distinct areas. To achieve this, a partition wall was built and sliding doors were installed to facilitate access.

As it is a storage area, the lighting was reinforced by projecting spotlights onto the pieces, and a backlit canvas was installed. Several layers of paint were also applied to the floor to unify the staircase area with the rest, and the display unit was restored to achieve a harmonious atmosphere.
