New life for furniture

Tips

Not everything new is better, and if you don't believe it, just ask all those who advocate for a more sustainable world. In the world of decoration and interior design, it's increasingly common to see reclaimed pieces in contemporary settings. Specifically, in the bathroom, we're seeing how antique pieces are being reinvented as vanity units.

Whether you've inherited a family heirloom, acquired an antique, or want to give one of your pieces a new look, giving it a different use than its original one is a great option for renovating your bathroom.

There are different options, and this is where everyone's creativity comes into play to invent a new piece of furniture from an old one, or to leave ingenuity in the hands of decorators or interior designers who make the most of the space.

Do you dare to restore a piece of furniture yourself? Here are the steps to follow to bring it back to life:

  1. Do you already know which piece of furniture you are going to restore or are you looking for a special piece? Whatever it is, keep in mind that it will be necessary to make a hole to place the sink and there must be space to place the siphon that fits perfectly.
  2. Regarding the sink choice, you can opt for a washbasin countertop, a built-in model, or under-counter model. In the first case, you will only need a hole for the drain, and in the second case, a hole the size of the sink will need to be made to fit it. If you are handy, you won't have any problem, but if not, you can ask professionals for help.
  3. Also, one must consider if the sink has orifice for the faucet, as otherwise another hole will have to be made and the space occupied by the connections must be taken into account.
  4. If the chosen furniture is an antique dresser or wooden table, it will be necessary to perform the appropriate treatment to eliminate woodworm if present, and it will be advisable to treat it with lasur to protect the surface from moisture.
  5. Can you apply a wax oil To achieve a natural, pleasant finish with a silky feel, that's long-lasting and doesn't create a plastic layer.
  6. Stop customize the bathroom vanity you can change the handles if it has them; this small detail will give it a new look, recycling it. You can even change the countertop if you're not entirely convinced by the one it has, so it will adapt to the room's decoration as much as possible.
