Preserving the Barcelona building tradition
Projects, ResidentialIn the vibrant Sant Antoni neighborhood of Barcelona, there is a beautiful 120m2 home that has been transformed into an interior design project by the MADE BCN studio. With four bedrooms, two bathrooms, a closed kitchen, and a cozy living-dining room with access to a gallery, this project stands out for its focus on preserving the traditional way of living in an Ensanche apartment and highlighting existing elements.

Upon entering the home, one is met with a feeling of authenticity and Barcelona's traditional construction. The ceilings with moldings and rosettes, the beautiful hydraulic tile floors with their varied designs, and the original wooden carpentry bear witness to the history that permeates every corner. MADE BCN made the undisputed decision to preserve and make the most of these elements, making them the star of the design.

The project's approach involved making small but significant interventions in each of the living spaces and corners of the home. The kitchen, for example, was integrated into the long distribution hallway, revitalizing it and giving it a sense of visual spaciousness. The materials chosen for this new addition blended harmoniously with the existing ones, without creating conflicts.
One of the most notable modifications was the removal of a partition separating the bedroom from the living-dining room. This decision allowed for the creation of a single, bright space, illuminated by the gallery on the rear facade. Despite this intervention, the initial integrity and coherence of the home were maintained, preserving its architectural value. The result is a cozy and functional environment where the boundaries between different areas fade away.

The interior design project achieves maximum functionality without distorting the original configuration of the home. The bathroom is one of the spaces that has been most adapted, each new element, such as the Dinan washbasin, it is carefully integrated into the environment. It does not compromise the essence or the history of the home.

This project is a testament to the value of interior design as a means to connect the past and present, creating a home that honors its history while adapting to modern needs.
