Terrace on the Costa Brava, the sea as a reference point

Atelier

When decorating any space, we not only show our personality and taste, but we also create rooms where we can relax and enjoy ourselves.

Interior designer Teresa Casas, responsible for fitting out the terrace of a private residence located in the center of a town on the Costa Brava, commented that “It's not a modern building, but rather an old house with character. The terrace was practically unused because it wasn't considered a space for enjoyment. We thought it would be important to reclaim it, especially to take advantage of the sunny hours of the seasons that aren't the hottest. In summer, due to its proximity to the beach, it's not as necessary, and the owners prefer the cool interior of the house, which, due to its construction, maintains a lower temperature.”.

Cecilio Espejo and Maria Centeno These are the artists from the Bathco Atelier who have worked alongside Teresa Casas' team on this project. When conceiving the project, different aspects were taken into account, such as the building's surroundings or the furniture: the color of the chairs or the pattern on the cushions. Being located in a coastal town, references to the sea and the shoreline could not be overlooked. The aim was to provide a note of reference to the place, of personalization, exclusivity, and artistic expression, which at the same time would convey the value of craftsmanship.

For María, “this project had very defined guidelines. A composition was desired that combined painting and volume inspired by the Mediterranean. We then focused on the characteristic blues of the Mediterranean in the forms of its underwater fauna: fish, corals, and seashells.”.

Cecilio delves into the technique, stating that “the mural has two very distinct techniques and treatments: ceramic painting to recreate the school of fish and coral, and three-dimensional work made from volumetric elements that simulate seashells. It is important to highlight that these elements have been molded in porcelain one by one, without the aid of molds. A completely artisanal job. Once fired, a varnish has been applied to protect it from the elements.”.
