Atelier Project, Art in a Single-Family Home
First it was a Winery, then an Oceanographic Museum, and now Bathco Atelier presents its third real project: the renovation of a single-family home that could be located in the Burgundy region, near Dijon (France).

The chosen space for the intervention was a house with a distinctly contemporary style, notable for its architecture of straight, simple lines with spacious, bright areas. Unpretentious and endowed with great functional character, it says a lot with little. This clearly demonstrates the movement promoted by Mies van der Rohe, which revolves around the idea of “Less is more.”.
To develop the Atelier Projects, artists try to understand who will inhabit the space to be intervened and seek inspiration in their experiences, tastes, and desires. They look for those details that can be the differentiating factor to achieve unique corners based on their lived experiences.
In this case, the inspiration came from a trip to Japan. We tried to add small personal touches using certain elements that would convey the story of the people, without losing that practical, pure, and discreet characteristic.
For the development of this project, ceramic elements from the dwelling were used to achieve totally original pieces that would give the project the personal character it deserved.
To reflect all these ideas, the main concept was to create an immersive, serene, and tranquil space reminiscent of a Japanese garden, with a touch of color added through watercolor washes. The artist Emeric Minaya created ink maps of color on the sinks, connecting watercolor and water, while the mural is characterized by its absence of color and the movement conveyed through shapes and brushstrokes that recall interwoven wicker. This brings in the more traditional facet in contrast to the modernity of the environment.
Do you want to bring art to your own project?
On one hand, Atelier projects offers the opportunity to bring art into one's own space for all those seeking something unique and unrepeatable. When the idea is born in the architect's, designer's, interior designer's, etc. studio, it is transferred to the Atelier artists, and they begin a process of experimentation, playing with colors and materials until they reach a final concept. They turn the concepts over and over and materialize the idea. Thus, three examples emerge, which can be seen in the publication: a family home, a winery in Spain, and an oceanographic museum.
What is Bathco Atelier?
Bathco Atelier is a unique initiative that links the art world with the ceramic and bathroom decoration sector for the first time. It also involves the implementation of an area for artistic creation and experimentation within the company. Artists generate ideas, work on new designs, and create and experiment with the possibilities offered by paints and their fusion with other materials such as iron particles, sandstones, and crystals. Ultimately, it is a collaborative project with 8 artists who contribute their personal touch and their way of living and understanding art to each piece that comes out of this workshop's kiln.
