«THE WHITE HOUSE Washington June 17, 2016 Dear Jesus, thank you for your kind remembrance of the Titanic. I want you to know that I admire your generosity. We all come from different communities, with different traditions, but I believe that nations and individuals are stronger when they work together. By interconnecting borders and cultures and standing firm in the ideals that unite us, we can move toward a future with greater peace and prosperity for all. Thank you again for your thoughtful gesture. I wish you the best. Sincerely. Barack Obama«.

With this letter, dated June 17 in Washington, President Barack Obama thanked Jesús Ferreiro, president of the Titanic Foundation, for sending the first replica made of one of the sinks from the «ship of dreams» that sank in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean 104 years ago, when it was heading to the port of New York with 2,207 people on board, of whom only 712 managed to arrive.

As can be seen in the attached photograph, only President Obama's signature has been added to the original sink.

The company selected by the Titanic Foundation for this replica is Bathco, located in Cantabria and one of the most important and prestigious in the world in this specialty. Its CEO, José López Cortés, stated that, although they are proud of the work done, they almost gave up due to the enormous difficulties encountered in adapting a sink made 104 years ago to current drainage systems. Consequently, the delivery was delayed until they found a technical solution for the sink to properly perform its automatic drainage.

The city of León will be where a replica of this sink, signed by Barack Obama, will be incorporated into the exhibition TITANIC THE RECONSTRUCTION, which can be visited these days at the «El Palacín» Cultural Center (Old Sugar Mill) in the León capital.
