The artists at the Bathco Atelier have had the opportunity to introduce the world of ceramics to members of the Multiple Sclerosis Association of Cantabria, the Down Syndrome Foundation, and the New Life Association.
After visiting the showroom of the Cantabrian company, they viewed a presentation that took them on a journey through the history of ceramics: from its origins, when this material was used to make everyday objects, to the more artistic concept seen in the works of contemporary ceramists such as Claudia Biehne or Chiung Wen Hsu.
The hands-on workshop involved applying ceramic pigments onto white or screen-printed tiles. Participants could choose between painting on pre-designed pieces with floral motifs or freehand painting.
They were also able to see the process of decorating pieces with ceramic decals, as well as the firing process that makes the pieces resistant to use and the passage of time.
After finishing the activity, the students were able to take home the tile they painted themselves after it had gone through the drying process.
