The Cantabrian company Bathco unveiled its first dedicated space at Casa Decor 2020 last week, one of Spain's most important interior design events of the year. Titled ‘La baronesa con pincel’ (The Baroness with a Brush), the room was designed by interior designer Virginia Sánchez and developed by the artists of Bathco Atelier.
The result of this work has been a unique space, which breaks away from the conventional and combines a classic and elegant room with daring and transgressive elements.
From concept to reality, there is a long process that the company wanted to share through a ‘making of’ video that shows how these professionals work by hand, one by one, each piece that is present at the Madrid event.
The composition is made up of two large murals, a set of ceramic volumes, a series of sinks specially adapted for the occasion, and several elements from current Bathco collections, such as two basins from the Iron Collection. All the pieces are inspired by the work of artist Tamara de Lempicka, one of the leading figures of New York Art Deco, so the room transports visitors to the magical 1920s.
To achieve this effect, artists at the Atelier have worked on two NEW LYS porcelain sinks to recreate the marble finish. The chosen color is the same green that can be seen in the scarf featured in the vanity mural.
The proposal includes two murals measuring 260 x 140 cm, developed from ceramic pieces that have been individually treated and decorated before being joined in the final composition. This decoration consists of applying a set of decals over which the artists have then drawn by hand. In one of the murals, luminous elements have also been incorporated into the hair, lips, eyes, and nails, giving the design a distinctive touch of fantasy achieved by applying luminous pigments that are integrated into the artwork.
Regarding the ceramic volumes, each piece has been extracted, molded, and treated by the artists of the Atelier to generate this ensemble that dresses the living room wall as if it were a tapestry.
Finally, the space includes two cast iron sinks from one of Bathco's latest collections. These sinks represent a strong commitment to innovation and sustainability, as they are recycled and recyclable, in addition to being cast by a Cantabrian company. The room is completed with a Piamonte wall-hung toilet and a New Toledo floor-mounted toilet with a tank, a Pretoria freestanding bathtub from the Solid Surface collection, matte black Athenas faucets, and Caracas round mirrors.
