The work of Bathco Atelier artists featured in the tasting room of Ron Matusalem, designed by Marta Sánchez Zornoza

Interior designer Marta Sánchez Zornoza designed a sink alongside the Bathco Atelier artists for the tasting room (space 20) that she created for Ron Matusalem at Casa Decor 2022.

Paying tribute to Ron Matusalem on its 150th anniversary, Marta Sánchez Zornoza decided to create a sensory space that transports visitors to the Caribbean. The interior designer explains that “the theme of the project is a striking tasting room, with a bar, a bench, and three zones that lead to different sensations related to the rums presented by Matusalem. Furthermore, we transfer the value of aging to interior design with floor restoration techniques and reused materials.”.

For the space, they chose lightweight stone, lighting to add warmth, and the rehabilitation of materials. The stone, the main element of the project, represents timelessness and sophistication, and was chosen in toasted, green, and white tones that evoke liquor, the sea, and light. The original terrazzo and hydraulic tiles of the building symbolize the luxurious decay characteristic of Cuban palaces. All accompanied by smart home scenes.

The interior designer was clear that she wanted a special piece for the tasting room, so she sent some hexagonal tiles in copper tones as inspiration to the artists at Bathco Atelier. After several color tests on different models, they opted for a large sink in copper tones painted by the artists next to the valve.

Complete the set with the Milos Ref. 18093 faucet, a new addition from Bathco this year.

Sustainable contribution

The project aligns with the philosophy of sustainability and the cyclical by respecting the original flooring of the house, reusing broken tiles, as well as glass bottles and doors to create the main element of the space: a patchwork bench that forms a sculpture full of history.
